This year’s revamped Diabetes Wellness Day will be celebrating 25 years of DRWF.

DRWF is delighted to share details of our upcoming United Through Diabetes event as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations.

Our first national event of its kind will be held on Saturday, 16th September 2023 at Chesford Grange, Kenilworth, Warwickshire.

This one-day event replaces our usual programme of Diabetes Wellness Days held across the country and we hope to welcome as many of you as possible as part of our mission to inform, inspire and empower people living with diabetes as part of our educational programme.

Join us and discover new skills, knowledge, and tools to enhance your existing diabetes understanding, learn about the very latest in diabetes care and management, question the experts, meet the researchers, make new friends in the diabetes community and much more.

Meet the researchers

There will also be a special showcase of our funded diabetes research where you can meet our amazing researchers and ask them all about the exciting work going on behind the scenes.

This is a great opportunity to meet those at the forefront of the groundbreaking work that has and continues to change the lives of everyone living with diabetes, find out what work is happening now, what is coming and hear their hopes for the future.

Diabetes Café

Meet other people from the diabetes community, make friends and share experiences over a cup of your favourite beverage in the Diabetes Café.

Refreshments and lunch

Tea, coffee, and a selection of refreshments will be available all day in the Diabetes Café. A healthy buffet lunch of jacket potatoes with a choice of toppings, salad and other sides will also be provided as part of the day.

Parking and access

Parking at Chesford Grange will be free for people attending the event and there are spaces for 650 cars. The hotel is fully accessible for people with disabilities.

History

Since DRWF’s inception in the UK in 1998 we have remained committed to supporting people living with all types of diabetes and those that care for them with our Diabetes Wellness Event Programme.

From our humble beginnings holding local educational days in community halls and hospitals, the events soon grew to include our regional Diabetes Wellness Days, residential weekends, walking and activity holidays and healthy cooking days.

Recent years have seen the events grow further to include our, in person and virtual Diabetes Wellness Type 1 Family Camps.

In 2018 our work was recognised by colleagues across the diabetes industry with a national Sanofi ‘Quality in Care Award’ in Empowering People with Diabetes.

It’s been a remarkable journey and along the way we have forged great memories, made amazing friends, worked with the very best experts in the world of diabetes and changed lives.

Now we are in our 25th year, we are looking ahead with great excitement to the next chapter and taking things to another level where we can support even more people living with diabetes.

We hope you’ll join us at this new and exciting event. We would love to see you there.

Testimonials from previous DRWF diabetes educational events

“People live with diabetes day in, day out. Not everyone can be seen regularly by a diabetes specialist. Access to high quality education of an appropriate standard in an appropriate setting is fundamental if we are to see engagement and successful self-management. Education is pivotal if we are to empower people to take charge of their diabetes as much as possible. I am honoured to support DRWF and the events they provide for people living with diabetes.”
Dr Mayank Patel, Consultant in Diabetes University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust; Quality in Care awards Outstanding Educator in Diabetes; Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer, University of Southampton; Member of the DRWF Editorial Advisory Board

“I felt that the day exceeded my expectations as a diabetes professional and volunteer. It was great to be part of a team of people who were so committed to getting better patient outcomes and wellness for people with diabetes.”
Maggie Meer, Founder of Diabetes Professional Care

“I attended the day with my wife to hopefully learn more about living with diabetes, new drugs and treatments, tips, and advice. I was amazed at how much I learned. It has helped me see so many new ways of assisting my wife to keep her diabetes under control and in seeking support from our diabetes team. Thank you to all at DRWF and those that supported the event for your help. We look forward very much to seeing you all next year.”
